Can it happen here?

The revolution may be beginning in Iran. The question is, will the government be successful in beating it down? Because of the fraudulent vote there (come on, we know it...) the people are rising up and calling their government liars. (note to Iranians: "Well DUH!") They are protesting the vote and taking to the streets, fed up with the status quo. (only took 'em 30 years, but hey, better late than never.)
Another question that arises from these events is "Can it happen here?" By "it" I mean fraudulent voting where one side knows it won, while the other side claims victory and says it "doesn't matter" about the vote. After all, the state run media says they won! So it MUST be true! It doesn't take much of a stretch of the imagination to know that it CAN happen here. It takes three things. First, a group like ACORN who perpetuates fraud in voter registration and encourages people to register more than once to vote (thereby opening the door for multiple people to vote in multiple precincts). Second, it takes a sizable block of the media to be on one side instead of being unbiased. To slobber over one candidate (example: getting "tingly feelings" up their legs when the candidate speaks), and to cast the opposing candidate in the most negative light possible. Third, it takes a largely apathetic, uneducated and semi-educated populace who don't read much, only rely on one source of media instead of doing their own research, and rejoice at the idea that government may give them what they need and want instead of having to actually work for it.
All that being said, and considering recent events in our own country, now ask yourself if it can happen here....you know the answer.
Regarding what to do about this revolution in Iran: we can do two things. One, we can do nothing. The Iranian government will have such a hassle on their hands dealing with the revolution that they won't have time to screw around in other countries, which they have been doing with abandon. Our soldiers and Marines will be safer, the terrorists will have less money and arms to fight with, and that'll be one thorn out of our side at least for a while. A win-win situation.
The second thing we could do (and maybe it could be concurrent with the first thing) is to encourage the Iranian people in this revolution. True, the other guy that probably won is not a great guy either, not by any stretch, but I am starting to think only the Antichrist could be worse than Ahmadina-chihuahua. We can't expect them to go to a totally free nation after being under the ayatollahs, mullahs and clerics for 30 years, and then this cretin. It's going to take baby steps, but I think the majority of the people of Iran (note I said the PEOPLE, not the government) are ready to take that first baby step.
Just my two cents' worth, but I say that outwardly we do nothing while at the same time encouraging the people of Iran to take back their government one bit at a time. It will not only benefit the Iranians, it will also benefit the United States in the long run.
